The Journey Continues: What’s Next?

Writing a blog is something relatively new for me. I originally created my blog in November 2017 to document my travels after I left my corporate career. I wanted to help others that may be interested in traveling and not only write about destination tips but also write about all the feelings that came along with traveling the globe solo.

I thought about naming my blog “Where Is Cory” so others could easily see where I was located in the world. But “Where Is Cory” refers to a specific location.  And as I thought further, what if I later wanted to write about journeys that are not in a physical location.  What if I wanted to write about other types of journeys?  Emotional journeys. Spiritual journeys. Any type of journey.

Thus, the name “There Is Cory” emerged.  And after the latest journey with my mother, it seems to make a lot of sense now. My blog is something I that I have enjoyed doing as a hobby. But it has helped me uncover a newfound passion of mine: writing. And writing it is something I never thought I would love to do. Especially when I dreaded writing business strategy documents and boring business language in former corporate jobs just a couple years ago. At that time, I thought I was a horrible writer.

INSPIRE OTHERS

Over the past year and a half, I have had a lot of time to reflect about my life.  And time to realize what I want and what I don’t want with the rest of my life. Through all of this self-discovery, I have discovered my higher purpose. And I want to share it with everyone so others know what to expect moving forward! My mother’s passing certainly has fueled this passion of mine. To live each day to the fullest and not wait to make changes that you have always wanted to make.

I want to:

  • Inspire others to become their best self.
  • Create a world where people can be who they were meant to be.
  • Help others align their inner purpose with reality, as early as possible in life.
  • Facilitate and create opportunities for others to make brave moves to make positive change in their lives.

WHAT’S NEXT?

And now that I have been writing about my mother’s journey and with the passing of my mother, many people have asked “so what’s next for you?” And that is such a great question, but I have been thinking about the next few months and wanted to share some initial thoughts as I begin to move into my next journey.

Here is what is next for me…

GET TO WARMER WEATHER, STAT!

Next weekend, I plan to travel south by car. Stopping in Indianapolis for a week to see my best friends. Stopping by Montgomery, Alabama, for a few days to see one of my most favorite spiritual friends. And eventually making my way down to St. Petersburg, Florida, to stay with more best friends for a while. Spending time with some of the people that I love the most will help me heal. I envision some sunny beach days full of tears as I look out over the Gulf of Mexico to begin healing my soul.

FINISH MY FIRST BOOK

I have mentioned my unfinished book many times over the past several months. And many of you have told me that you are excited to read my book, a memoir leading up to my departure from my sixteen year corporate career a year and a half ago. I promised my mother that I would finish my book by her birthday, February 24! So I have 10 days to finish writing. And I think I can get there. But after I finish writing, I will need a month to have the book edited as well as hire a designer to design a great book cover. I imagine that the book will be online to purchase at some point in April. I will share more about this journey as it gets closer by sharing some excerpts from the book. I also plan to have a book launch and mini-book tour, most likely kicking off in April/May in Montpelier, Ohio, where it all began for me! Much more to come about this so stay tuned.

GET INTO SHAPE

I’ll just come out and say it: I turn 40 this year! I’ve always wanted to be in the best shape that I could be at 40 years old so I am working on a customized program to help add some muscle back while shaving off some fatty areas! Healthy eating and hitting the gym! I know some of you may be rolling your eyes, but everyone is different and it is good to have some sort of health goal. If anyone is interested in joining me (even if our goals aren’t quite the same), let me know. I’ll be posting my progress on my Facebook page!

CONTINUE WRITING ABOUT MEL’S JOURNEY

While my mother’s physical journey has ended, her spiritual journey lives on inside of everyone. Her legacy will continue to live on and is still evolving. More to come!

LAUNCH A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN MEMORY OF MEL

My sister, Abby, my mother’s husband, Mike, and I have some exciting things planned to continue my mother’s legacy. Our first fundraiser will be held next Friday, February 22, 2019, to help raise money for my mother’s inaugural scholarship. We will announce more details at the upcoming fundraiser and we hope to see you there.

LAUNCH A TRANSFORMATIONAL TRAVEL COMPANY

The initial trip of my new company was planned to kick off in Bali, Indonesia, at the end of April this year. However due to my mother’s journey, I needed to postpone the trip. I plan to launch this same trip towards the end of the year so be on the lookout for my details. The company and its trips are designed to provide an unforgettable travel experience while at the same time help you overcome barriers that will lead you to follow your true passions in life before its too late! I’ll be the coach. I can’t wait to help inspire more people to live their best lives!

Thank you for your continued support. And continue to live like Mel!!
