City of Lanterns: Hoi An, Vietnam

Hoi An, Vietnam, is a place that I could move to and work remotely for a few months.  The city had historic architecture as a UNESCO World Heritage site, beautiful lanterns hung across the narrow walkways, a relaxed feel, quiet neighborhoods, a lively riverside area, really great food (my favorite bánh mì sandwich), pristine beaches and ancient relics., like the Mỹ Sơn Temple.

And while the city is a main tourist stop, the city wasn’t overflowing with tourists.  One of the big draws is the custom clothing shops throughout the city where you can have any type of clothing made exactly the way you want for a very cheap price at decent quality.

Instead of writing a blog about Hoi An, I decided to create my first “vlog” – a video blog showcasing the highlights of Hoi An so you can see the city instead of read about it.  And I will be your host.  You will quickly see that this video was branded for WOW airlines, a discount airline based in Iceland that has been extending cheap routes to the US, Europe and now Asia.  I entered a competition that WOW air was hosting for the summer of 2018 that required me to make a vlog of my hometown (or city that I was currently in, which happened to be Hoi An).  WOW air was hiring a travel guide to travel to their 38 destinations and vlog about each one.

I ultimately was not chosen for this unique opportunity, however I had a great time making the video and learned some great new video editing software (Adobe Premiere).  So it’s a win-win. It was my first attempt at really making a vlog.  I have a long way to improve but I think it is pretty decent for a first attempt!

Enjoy and tell me what you think!
