The first four weeks of the twelve total weeks for utilizing my book coach was spent on brainstorming exercises to narrow down my scope. I had so many thoughts and topics to write about. It was a very interesting process to go through diving deep into areas of my life that I had forgotten about.
I would organize groupings if thoughts into one large bubble “topic”. And then I would write down related topics in smaller bubbles. It was like a big tree with the main trunk being the main topic and then many branches as smaller topics related to the larger topic. I would do this for all of the large topics and this help me see all the big topics at once.
My book coach and I had a series of conversations about what I created on paper. I would walk him through the thoughts that had come to mind and why I wrote them down. He would listen to my entire thought process and take notes. And after he listened to everything, he began to notice concept that I have gone through many experiences in life and was on the cusp of really finding my purpose. Of finding who I really was. But that in each situation, I fell short for some reason. I had almost become me.
What I quickly realized is that this book could really help my soul. It could be an opportunity to dive deeper into my emotions and feelings. To uncover how to really find myself. To finally become me.
But even after going through this process, I had several other angles that I could take with my book. And it all just depended on what would come out during the writing process. I had created a list of most of the large topics that were important for me to write about.
After much upfront brainstorming and planning, it was now time to write. The writing will be a journey for me. A healing process. And while I have an lead of what my book will be about, the final angle can be developed when I am finished writing with the help of my coach and editors.
People ask me if hiring a book coach is worth. And I would say absolutely yes primarily because of the steps outlined above. I most likely would have stopped thinking about writing a book because I would have been overwhelmed on where to begin. And about what to write about. Even though it wasn’t perfectly clear on my writing angle, my coach helped lead me through the planning phases when it became confusing and into the writing phase!
