Step 1: I Hired A Book Coach

First, I wanted to say a huge thank you for signing up to receive updates about my upcoming book.  I know many of you are really excited to read it and that makes me smile. But I am still in the process of editing the book.  More about that later.  But I want to give you some insight into my recent book writing journey.

Writing a book has been a lifelong dream and has always been on my “to-do” list.  But I never was in the right mind-space nor found the time to sit down and start writing. That word “time” is a tricky one.  It is something we don’t have much of and if you begin to really put into perspective how much time we really have, we begin to prioritize things in our lives that really matter to us.

My time is really important.  The time that I have on this planet.  And I made a conscious decision one year ago September 23 that I no longer wanted to spend my time working for a big corporation and spending my time in a corporate office from 9am-6pm Monday through Friday. I had an urge to spend my time doing something that I truly loved and that urge finally bubbled over.

On October 30, 2017, I set out on a journey around the globe (literally).  I am sure many of you have been following me. Its crazy to think I have stepped foot on six continents since then.  I have been to Australia and Bali twice each. Walked on the continent of Antarctica. Climbed active volcanos as lava was shooting out in Vanuatu. Experienced my first earthquake in the Solomon Islands (and prayed there was no tsunami in the middle of the night). Dove in shipwrecks in the Philippines. Saw Mount Everest with my own eyes!  And now I write this near Galway, Ireland.

I was spending my time healing.  I was spending my time just being me.  And I had forgotten about so many things like my old corporate life.  All the possessions that I once had.  I only had luggage the size of two of your bed pillows stacked on top of each other (as long as it isn’t one of those body length pillows…haha). I forgot about making money and saving for the future.  All those things that consumed my mind – I learned to forget.  And I even forgot that I wanted to write a book.

But I had been listening to podcasts while I traveled from one location to the next.  The SmartPassiveIncome podcase by Pat Flynn (Here is the link to his podcast) has certainly been an inspiration. It is all about ways to earn passive income. But one day I was flying from Chiang Mai, Thailand, to Mandalay, Myanmar, and I listened to Pat interview Azul Terronez, who was a book coach. (Here is a link to his website). And my dream to write a book flashed into my head.  What amazing timing to hear this because that is what I now had: time!

I sent Coach Azul a note and we set up an introductory call to chat about why I wanted to write a book.  And we instantly both felt this was a great idea and great timing.  I hired him immediately.  And the following week on June 14, I began a 12-week program with six other writers called “Born to Write Coaching Program” which was a group program with the goal for all of us to complete a full draft manuscript of our first book by the end of the program.

So yes, by August 30, I had finished writing the first draft of my book!  65,000 words. But more to come about that.  I first wanted to thank you for being my “superfan” and I will be sending more updates all the way up until I launch my book later this year!
